LO PALIO DE LO DAINO
The Palio del Daino, celebrated every year in August, is an event based entirely on the challenge between the 4 districts of the town of Mondaino: Borgo, Castello, Contado and Montebello.
They compete in games, challenges, medieval and Renaissance battles to win the coveted prize in the splendid Piazza Maggiore.
The latter is one of the most beautiful squares in Romagna, dating back to 1800 and called Piazza Padella by its inhabitants due to its semicircular shape on which the main avenue of the town is located.
Walking through the streets you will be pervaded by sweet Renaissance melodies and you will be able to witness the work of artisans intent on working metals, fabrics, glass, leather and paper.
Then there are various representations of the "profession of war", all to be discovered by wandering among the camps present.
There is certainly no shortage of taverns and taverns to enjoy, as the famous saying goes, "right and healthy food for the soul and the body", in which the scenic setting is truly astonishing, throughout the village there is a constant coming and going of parades in splendid Renaissance dresses, shows with jugglers, minstrels, crossbowmen, fakirs, swordsmen, witches, stilt walkers and so on and so forth, for a stunning show that gives emotions to tourists and locals every year.
Thanks to this event, the small village of Mondaino becomes for 4 days the home of a magical atmosphere that leads visitors on a journey into the past exploring the world on which our roots were once founded.
The town in itself presents an immense wealth with regards to its historical and artistic heritage, such as the Rocca Malatestiana, the Piazza Maggiore, the Convent of the Poor Clares, the parish church of S. Michele, the museums, Porta Marina and the former Franciscan Convent of Monte Formosino.
