SAN DONATO O "DELLA SIGNORA" BRIDGE
This medieval humpback-shaped bridge is located in the city of Modigliana, made up of three arches, and crosses the Acerreta stream.
The bridge was built in the second half of the 18th century by the Casalini family on the ruins of an ancient Roman bridge, which was destroyed following a flood in 1640.
It is called "the Lady's Bridge" because in that period a noblewoman on the Modigliana farm called Le Colombaie was head of the family. The original name of the bridge is that of San Donato due to the proximity of an ancient church of the monks of Gamogna, now disappeared.
A legend has it that in ancient times, this Lady went out every evening and crossed the bridge on horseback to observe her lands. One evening the horse slipped, the lady fell into the river with the horse and died. Since then it is said that on full moon nights, at one o'clock her spirit appears on her deck, dressed in black and with a bloody face. She is also said to kill all people who dare venture onto the bridge in her presence.
