MONDAVIO
Mondavio is a small town in the province of Pesaro Urbino which has a little less than 4000 inhabitants.
Without a doubt, the flagship of this Renaissance village is the Rocca Roveresca. Designed by the architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, it was commissioned by the dukes of della Rovere, to then be built between 1482 and 1492.
Given its excellent state of conservation, since 1966 it has housed the Historical Re-enactment Museum, which houses a variety of armor and weapons dating back to a period between the 8th and 17th centuries. Furthermore, inside there are also reconstructions of scenes from the life of the castle with period costumes.
As far as the exterior is concerned, the Rocca is a real fortress made up of a keep, a watchtower and walls with walkways 780 meters long. At the moment, in the moat there is an exhibition of reproductions of war machines made following the ancient drawings of the architect Martini step by step.
The historical re-enactment of the "Wild boar hunt" is a perfect opportunity if you want to take a step back in time. This year it was held from 12 to 14 August 2023, and aims to commemorate the arrival of Giovanni della Rovere in Mondavio.
So expect three days of entertainment including games, fireworks displays, concerts, theatrical processions in costume and much more.
