GREGORIO PALTRINIERI
Also known by the nickname Greg, Gregorio Paltrinieri is an Italian swimmer specializing in freestyle, born in Carpi on 5 September 1994.
He began moving in the water at the age of three months, when his parents enrolled him in the first aquatics courses.
His father Luca, a former good competitive swimmer, has managed the Carpi swimming pool since the inauguration of the new structure in 2015. It was precisely in that swimming pool that the swimmer from Modena began training under his father's guidance.
Gregorio's career began in the breaststroke style, which remained his specialty until he was 12 years old.
Later, thanks to his physical development and notable stature, he switched to freestyle.
He competes for the Coopernuoto company and from 10 July 2012 also for the State Police team.
He is passionate about basketball, in particular he is a New York Knicks fan and since he was a child he dreamed of becoming an NBA star.
As for swimming, his role model is the Australian Ian Thorpe, who he saw for the first time on television at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, when he won three gold and two silver medals.
He is the world champion of the 1500 m long course and short course, the 10 km open water and the 800 m short course.
He is also currently the reigning European champion in the 800 m in both long and short courses, in the 5 km in open water and in the 5 km team event.
With Massimiliano Rosolino he is the only Italian swimmer to own an Olympic medal for each metal (gold, silver, bronze).
He takes first place on the podium in the 2022 Budapest World Swimming Championships.
