FESTA DELLA SEGAVECCHIA MISANO
The Segavecchia festival in Misano Adriatico is one of the most important and significant festivals in Romagna.
The legend tells of a woman who on a Thursday of Lent committed a sin of gluttony by eating meat and for this she was accused of witchcraft and sentenced.
If once Lent was a moment dedicated to fasting, today occasions for penance have been transformed into a moment of joy and cheerfulness, so much so that the belly of the old woman is filled with sweets and delicacies.
As happens every year on Saturday, sports competitions, tastings of typical Romagna products and wines, workshops and children's parties are organized in Piazza della Repubblica in Misano; Sunday, on the other hand, is dedicated to the old woman who changes her look every year, keeping her secret until the end.
In the latest edition, parades of vintage motorcycles, orchestra concerts and photographic exhibitions were organised, as well as many events for adults and children.
We start celebrating from the morning, but as tradition dictates we wait for 16:30 to discover the new face of the Old Town, numerous colorful and noisy floats parade through the streets of the city from via Platani to via Marconi, passing through via della Republic and via Dante.
From the floats, the masked groups throw confetti and sweets at the spectators, giving everyone candies, pancakes and chocolate.
At 21:00 the old woman is hoisted into the sky and when everyone is looking up, the puppet is set on fire, while live music and fireworks are the backdrop for the most important moment of the party.
Admission is free.
